Kishmish is a Squall chimaera and Brimstone's messenger.

Appearance[]

Kishmish has the body shape of a crow, bat wings, a serpents forked tongue, and knife-like talons. However, at first glace he is often mistaken as a crow. Karou describes him as looking "like an escapee from a Hieronymus Bosh painting." He appears like an almost-crow shadow and doesn't speak. His bat wings look rather bizarre on his feathered body. He makes cricket chirrups to communicate.

Background[]

Kishmish appears whenever Brimstone has a message for Karou, usually summing her to go on an errand for him. Kishmish's usual place in Brimstone's shop is on his master's right horn.

Plot[]

Daughter of Smoke & Bone[]

While at Poison Kitchen with Zuzana, Karou notices Kishmish arrive in the cafe and goes into the bathroom to take Brimstone's message from him. Brimstone is requesting her immediately for an errand.

Kishmish shows up at the window of Karou's classroom the day after Karou's errand to Paris. Brimstone is asking for her again. This time, Brimstone sends her to Saigon. Kishmish delivers requests for Karou each day for the rest of the week. On Friday, Karou sees Kishmish again while she is heading to Poison Kitchen with Zuzana. Karou acknowledges that she sees him but refuses to meet him. She does eventually get his message though.

One day, Kishmish comes flying in at top speed on fire with a last note from Brimstone, requesting help, and baring the wishbone Brimstone always wore. He dies in front of Zuzana and Karou, requiring Karou to reveal the truth about chimaera to Zuzana. They bury Kishmish in Letná Park.
